Montreal conference highlights critique of capitalism and globalization

In Peter Dubés novel, “The City’s Gates”, Montreal is gearing up for the World Economic Forum. On one side are those preparing to welcome the policymakers and moneylenders; on the other are groups ready to protest the evils of capitalism and globalization.

This Montreal Review of Books review of Peter Dubé’s novel brings me back to the evening of Friday May 18th 2012 when tens of thousands of Montreal citizens flooded into the streets to protest against Law 78 – just after our degrowth conference’s panel on the political dimensions of degrowth with Elizabeth May, Françoise David and Luc Ferrandez.
