The Obama and Romney campaigns both claim to be in favor of economic growth; they just see different paths to their goal. But I suspect large swaths of the baby-boom generation, at least, are receptive to the concept of “degrowth.”
Here’s a fairly detailed explanation for what degrowth is. Basically, it means human growth and progress need to be predicated on something other than making more stuff, consuming more resources and encouraging people to buy ever more consumer products.
